I just got back from a quick walk to the campus post office and on the way there and back I noticed a man, standing on one of the granite blocks that line library walk. This gentleman was trying very hard to proclaim his message of salvation to all who were stopped in front of him. His message was, in a nutshell, if you don't love everyone, you are going to h-e-double hockey sticks. This gentleman was not the usual type I see out there. This was a very well dressed, academic looking older gentleman. Below him, on the walk a younger college student was quietly trying to share her message. While the gentleman was loud and confrontational, the girl was quiet and just talking through the man. The gentleman pointed to the girl saying, she didn't love him so she was not going to be saved and told all the boys in the crowd to not marry a contentious woman like this girl, all they would get was "nag, nag, nag, nag." I found this display of religious fervor, a very interesting display of contrasts. While both of them were, in my opinion, a little off in their interpretation of the Bible, it was an interesting display of religion on a pretty cynical, liberal campus. These moments are what make my job fun.
