Important thoughts and the blind leading the blind

So, California is in the middle of a debate that has concerned me more and more over the last month. It's the Proposition 8 debate, will the California Constitution allow only a man and a woman to be legally recognized as a marriage institution, or will anyone be allowed to marry, and that is what it will become, anyone will be allowed to marry, however many people they want, whatever they want. So i urge people to go to the website that has been set up to support Prop 8, where the constitution will be forever amended to read marriage is only between a man and a woman. Not just Californian's can donate, anyone can. I think this is a moment in the history of our country that is so important, the church is getting so involved in this. And this website is supported by the church, please look!

"or will anyone be allowed to marry" ... "whatever they want" ...

Sounds like someone has been feeding you a line of election-year hype.

After Prop 8 fails, it will not mean that folks can marry "whatever they want" (civil marriage is a contract - things can't sign contracts). It won't mean that "anyone will be allowed to marry" (again, civil marriage is a contract - we don't allow children to sign contracts).

If you're really concerned about this issue, will you take the time to look at both sides? If so, here are a couple of sites that I'd suggest:

Please, if this is so important, I hope you'll take the time.

Don't you love how people think you haven't looked at both sides? How judgmental... I vote you delete the previous comment!

YOU GO Lisa. I love it when people post things making it sound like you are some sort of uneducated person who doesn't do her research. I think people who randomly COMMENT their opinion on people's blogs should get a life. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

Chino Blanco, I have looked at both sides, I have friends/coworkers who are wanting this prop to fail and I see their side. But I also understand that there is a fundamental moral issue here and the opportunity for a line to be drawn. I truly believe that if this passes, anything can go, polygamy will be acceptable, etc, it will open the floodgates. I think so many other issues will stem from this as well, what my children will be taught in schools, how our religion can function if we don't agree with the state mandated teaching, where is our freedom of religion if the state is telling us what we have to accept? Seems kind of counter-constitutional.
