Ready, Ready, Ready to Run

So on Saturday, I ran my first ever race, a 5k in Balboa Park for the cause of Autism. I don't claim to be a runner by any means, but I am quite happy with the outcome. I have been "training" for this for a few weeks, running every day with a friend. We've run 2.5 miles to 4.5 miles every day. So race day came and I was a little excited to put all my effort into the race. I had been running a steady 10 minute paced mile throughout our training. Well, when I passed the mile 1 marker, the time of 8:30 was called out! I have NEVER run a mile that fast before in my life. Needless to say, I got to the end of the 3.2 mile race in a time of 27:17!! I kept up a 8:38/mile pace through the whole thing. My goal was to run the 3.2 miles in 30 minutes, so just a tad under 10 min/mile. I surprised myself.

Next goal: a 10k-6.4 miles. We'll see how that goes. The eventual goal by the end of the year, a 1/2 marathon. Anyone know of a good one in the West at the end of this year?

Broken Radar

I feel the need to write, somewhat apologetically, about how I sometimes gripe about guys not picking up the signals girls send out. While that does happen, I have come to the conclusion, perhaps finally, that girls do the same things. And I think this particular girl really does it. I have to admit, I think I have a broken radar. I admit, I'm pretty shy around guys, it takes me a while to warm up. But I think that has been misinterpreted as non-interest or pickiness. I didn't mean it to come off that way, but I also attribute it to my non-ability to read signals. I said it and admit it...I can't tell what the other person is thinking! I wish there was a list of actions=this feeling. That would be so helpful!

*sorry for the lack of interesting pictures..I am headed to Utah for Easter and will have a plethora of pictures for the next post, don't you worry!

Dance, Dance...

Yesterday, I sat outside at lunch, just enjoying the sun and reading my Business Law book (actually, not much reading was going on, just a lot of staring at the page, then up at people, then back at the page, then back at people, yup, never got through that page). I noticed a student group with a large tent set up on library walk doing a lot of passing out of flyers, but also a lot of dancing. This group was the Hip Hop dance group on campus. It may be called, where you were from, the "Stompers" group, or so I've been told by others whose schools had this type of dance group. It was like watching a UCSD version of "Step Up." I've never seen the movie, or the sequel, but have downloaded some of the music and tried to teach myself some cool moves. But I felt like I was being taught at lunch, so I watched this group perform and found some new moves I can throw into my routine! Watch out at the next YSA dance, I'm there and prepared!*

*Some of you may know, I have only attended 2 YSA dances since moving down to San Diego, so the next YSA dance may not be on this season's tour.

New TV series!

So I just saw a listing for a new TV show, "Battle 360." Out comes my nerdiness...it's a show on the History Channel starting tonight. While I'd like to say I have something else going on this Friday night, I can't right now. So I'm making a date with this TV show...

See the legendary USS Enterprise as never before

Battle 360 is the story of the World War II aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. The Enterprise held a pivotal place on the turbulent seas of World War II, engaging in some of modern combat's fiercest multi-front battles. Using the latest technology and cutting-edge computer graphic animation, Battle 360 brings viewers deep into the action, from high in the sky to deep underwater as the Enterprise fights its way to victory.

Watch Battle 360 Fridays at 10pm/9C. See the complete episode guide.

One more little addition...

I went and saw the movie Penelope this weekend, just wanted to say, if you are looking for an interesting, cute, family friendly about how to see beyond physical appearances, this is it. Really cute!

My life, in a nutshell!

I had a friend get married, we had a dessert party at our house where an uninvited visitor showed up and went to breakfast at a FABULOUS place down by the La Jolla Cove. Just a few pics from the adventures.

Here we are outside the temple on Rachel's wedding day, gorgeous day in February! Funny...never got a picture of the bride though!

We had a dessert party at my house, with many fun friends and good desserts. The one funny thing, 3 racoons decided to jump in on the party! We looked out onto our porch and there were 3 racoons, one was not afraid to walk right up to our sliding door and let me take a picture! Haven't seen them since, I abhor guests that never reciprocate, sheesh!

Here we are outside Brockton Villa, a little home converted into a restaurant right on the cove. I had been once before, but a few friends and I went again and loved it! This place is famous for "Coast Toast," a french toast that is almost a souffle, it has been soaked in liquid for hours and turns out so moist and delicious! Yum! We decided we deserved a reward that morning. Our stake did a 24 hours in the temple project, where the temple stayed open all night long to do sessions. My singles ward was assigned the 12:30am, 2:30am and 4:30am sessions. I made 12:30 and 2:30, then went home and crashed! Amazingly, I stayed awake the whole time. When they said that the singles are able to stay up all night, they were right, but that is only a miracle, singles need sleep too!!! In any case, coast toast was the reward!

It has been a beautiful week here in San Diego. I have sat out every day this week at lunch, and gotten a little bit of sun burnage on my nose! I am sorry for those who aren't able to share in this wonderful weather, and hope that it will soon get to you! I have a few upcoming adventures, I'm headed to Utah for Easter, my sister and brother in law are blessing their baby, so my whole family will be there! It will be great. Then the end of this month, I will be running my first ever race, a 5k, in Balboa Park. I'm not really going to beat people, just to keep running the whole time. I've been sick this past week with a pretty decent chest cold, which kind of hampered my running. At about the mile mark, I started wheezing last night, so we'll see how it goes, but I'm going to do it!

I also have my last class of the quarter tonight! Woohoo, and then finals next week. But by the end of this quarter, I will have finished 7 classes and only have 5 more until I'm a certified Paralegal. I will be done the end of July! 2 more quarters to go! I started looking at job openings yesterday just to get a feel for what was out there...can you say someone is excited!
